About 3D Fire Sprinkler Design

At 3D Fire Sprinkler Design we use computer aided drafting (CAD), to design fire protection systems. Our design programs of choice are SprinkCAD and HydraCAD which are designed to run in conjunction with AutoCAD, the most popular CAD system used by architects and engineers all over the world. These programs are fully functioning 2D & 3D programs, including hydraulic calculations and automatic material listing, that is designed to be compatible with interference coordination programs still in development. With our vast array of experience and the most current CAD and hydraulic calculation software 3D Fire Sprinkler design is positioned to meet all of your design needs. 3D Fire Sprinkler Designs works nationwide thru its office located in South Dakota.

KEY STAFF

CRAIG TASCHNER, NICET Level III, E.I.T. – President
Mr. Taschner has been involved in the design of various types of mechanical systems through working in the fire sprinkler, gas distribution, and fuel production industries over the past 10 years. Prior to his graduation in 2002 from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering he was involved in a 15 month internship program with MidAmerican Energy Company within the natural gas pipeline engineering division. Following graduation, Mr. Taschner was employed by Building Sprinkler Inc. in Sioux Falls, SD as a fire sprinkler system design engineer and was responsible for complete project management from the cost estimating stage to final design and inspection. Mr. Taschner is in the process of obtaining his Professional Engineering licensure and is a NICET Level III certified Fire Sprinkler System Designer and has tested to a Level IV. He is proficient in the use of mechanical design and drafting software and applies his strong work ethic and project management skills to each project he is assigned.

DARIN SYVERSON, NICET Level III, E.I.T.
Darin Syverson has been involved in the fire sprinkler design industry for over 12 years. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota – Mankato in 1998 and while conducting his studies worked part time for a fire sprinkler contractor. Darin continued to work for this contractor following graduation and through his hard work and drive has been able to gain experience within many arenas of the fire sprinkler industry. Darin has been able to be involved in the design of such projects as the following: schools, hospitals, apartment complexes, one and two family dwelling units, retail settings of all sizes, hotels, aircraft hangars, and others. Darin’s project responsibilities include initial design, calculations, fabrication, and coordination with architects and engineers throughout the design and installation process.
Darin is actively pursuing his Professional Engineering Licensure.

STEVE GUGEL, NICET Level II, E.I.T.
Steve has been involved with designing mechanical systems over the past 4 years. In 2005 he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Following graduation he worked as a design engineer and a project estimator for Smith Plumbing, Inc. in Pierre, SD. While there he utilized CADD software to produce in-house plumbing and hydronic designs for prefabrication and material orders. He also produced project estimates for bidding and change orders. He joined the Dakota Drafting & Design team in 2006 and currently works as a Fire Sprinkler Designer. Steve is a member of The Order of the Engineer and is an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) working towards his Professional Engineering and NICET Licensure.

STEPHEN KOVACS, NICET Level IV
Mr. Kovacs worked for his father's civil engineering firm in SW Pennsylvania while in high school as a drafting detailer and member of the land survey crew. His career in Fire Protection started in Maryland in 1984 as a design technician. In an effort to further his education and knowledge of fire protection, he began testing with the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) for certification in the field of Automatic Sprinkler System Layout and has attained the highest certification Level of IV. Over the years, Steve has worked for several companies, both large and small, and gained experience in every aspect of the industry including field installation, fabrication, sales, design and administration. After working in the Maryland/Washington D.C./Northern Virginia area for 11 years, he returned to Pittsburgh with his wife, Wendy, to raise a family.
